IDC/BCANDS – Elections Canada Voter Information
Elections Canada prioritizes ensuring that Indigenous electors and electors with disabilities can easily exercise their right to vote in a federal election. Under the Inspire Democracy program, IDC/BCANDS is working with Elections Canada to reduce barriers to participating in the electoral process by offering tools, information, and opportunities for Indigenous electors with disabilities to learn more about participating in federal elections.
By participating in the Canadian democratic electoral process, Indigenous individuals with disabilities can ensure that their concerns and perspectives are represented in government decision-making. Voting allows them to have a say in issues that directly impact their communities, including matters related to disability rights, Indigenous rights, healthcare, education, and social services.
What are IDC/BCANDS and Elections Canada doing to address barriers?
Through the Inspire Democracy program, Elections Canada is working with IDC/BCANDS to share key information and hold workshops for people who face barriers to participating in elections. This includes sharing resources in English, French, 49 other languages and accessible formats (braille, large print, audio CDs).
