Provincial Health Services Authority
Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) is one of six health authorities – the other five health authorities serve geographic regions of BC. PHSA’s primary role is to ensure that BC residents have access to a coordinated network of high-quality specialized health care services.
  •  BC Cancer Agency
    The BC Cancer Agency is responsible for cancer care for the people of B.C. The Agency’s cancer control program includes research, education, care and treatment, and is provided through its five regional centres in Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford and the Southern Interior. The BC Cancer Agency also has partnerships with other health care providers (physicians, pharmacists, nurses and others) and regional hospitals and clinics across B.C. to bring care closer to home for those who do not live in urban centres.
  •  BC Centre for Disease Control
    The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) provides provincial and national leadership in public health through surveillance, detection, treatment, prevention and consultation services. The Centre provides both direct diagnostic and treatment services for people with diseases of public health importance and analytical and policy support to all levels of government and health authorities.
  • BC Children’s Hospital & Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children
    BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children are BC’s major treatment, teaching and research facilities for child health. Serving children from birth to age 16, Children’s is home to many specialized pediatric services available nowhere else in the province as well as many outpatient clinics that enable children to receive therapy, medical care and surgical treatment without an overnight stay.
  • BC Mental Health & Addiction Services
    BC Mental Health and Addiction Services (BCMHAS) provide a diverse range of specialized, “one-of-a-kind” tertiary-level mental health services to people across the province.
  • BC Provincial Renal Agency
    The mandate of the BC Renal Agency (BCPRA) is to plan and coordinate the care of patients with kidney disease throughout the province. This planning and coordination is accomplished through collaborative partnerships of renal care professionals, working with members of health authorities, the Kidney Foundation, and UBC.
  • BC Transplant
    BC Transplant (BCT) is a comprehensive health care organization responsible for all aspects of organ transplantation in BC, and is the only integrated delivery system for organ transplant services in North America. BC Transplant supports the needs of both transplant and donor patients and families from pre-assessment to post-transplant. Affiliated with the University of British Columbia, BCT is responsible for patient care, teaching and research for organ donation and transplantation.
  • BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre
    BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre strives to provide excellence in care, research and teaching. It is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families, offering a broad range of specialized services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the country’s busiest and largest maternity hospitals and is the only source of tertiary maternity care in BC.
  • Cardiac Services BC
    Cardiac Services BC is responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating and, in some cases, funding cardiac services across the province in collaboration with senior administrators and physicians in the other health authorities. A centrally planned and coordinated approach to cardiac services – medical, surgical and diagnostic – will guide the province in defining both the scope of services offered and the expectations of service.
  • Perinatal Services BC
    PSBC works to improve the capacity and processes of provincial perinatal services through strategic leadership across a range of initiatives, with an overriding commitment to quality, accountability and resource planning, education and knowledge transfer, performance targets development and monitoring, and clinical standards achievement.
  • BC Autism Assessment Network (BCAAN)
    BCAAN is a program of the Provincial Health Services Authority; BCAAN is responsible for assessing and diagnosing children who may have autism. The goal of BCAAN is to provide timely assessment and diagnosis within reasonable distance of the child’s home. BCAAN includes specialists and health care professionals throughout BC. Assessment services are provided by each of the five geographic health authorities. BCAAN ensures the standards and guidelines set by the Ministry of Health are met, and reports to the Ministry on behalf of its health authority partners. 
  • BC Early Hearing Program
    The BC Early Hearing program is a service of the Provincial Health Services Authority. The goal of the program is to ensure that newborn babies and families across the province receive family friendly, professional early hearing screening services and support.
  • HIV/AIDS Program
    The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) plays an important role in responding to HIV/AIDS in B.C. Within the health authority HIV/AIDS work is done by a number of different agencies, contracted community organizations, and committed staff. The PHSA has developed a strategic framework for HIV/AIDS that will direct the future HIV/AIDS work of our health authority.
  •  Telehealth
    Telehealth is the use of communications and information technology to deliver health and health care services, information and education where participants are separated.
  • Aboriginal Health Program
    PHSA Aboriginal Health supports each of the PHSA agencies, programs and services in a collective approach to Aboriginal health. 
Vancouver Coastal Health
Locate health care services in Vancouver, Richmond, North and West Vancouver and along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Sunshine Coast and BC’s Central Coast.
  • Vancouver Coastal Health, Aboriginal Health
    VCH and our Aboriginal Health Team are working with Aboriginal communities to positively address individual and community health issues in a way that is inclusive of Aboriginal people’s input and cultural beliefs, identifies any barriers that may exist, and incorporates successful strategies.
  • Aboriginal Wellness Program
    The Aboriginal Wellness Program’s mission is to provide culturally safe mental wellness and addiction programs that promote health, wellness and healing.
  •  Vancouver Aboriginal Health Services
    It is the goal of Aboriginal Health Services to identify and develop ways to support the implementation of the urban Aboriginal community vision for health and wellness.
  •  Aboriginal Community Contracted Services
    As a key route to providing health services to Aboriginal community members, Aboriginal Health Services contracts 85% of its current funding out to Aboriginal community non-profit organizations.
  • Aboriginal Patient Navigator Program
    We offer practical support to aboriginal persons utilizing Vancouver Coastal Health services through hospital liaison and referral processes. Our purpose is to provide a communication linkage between the patient, family, community and health care provider, assisting the care team with health care and discharge planning. Provides non-clinical services and is an adjunct to health care staff
  • Adult Day Programs (Bella Coola)
    Provides a range of health, social stimulation and therapeutic recreational programs in a group setting to older adults. Designed to prolong senior’s independence in the community. Services also include health status monitoring, coordination of medical appointments, medication support and monitoring, health education, caregiver/family respite and a community bathing program. Clients are picked-up and dropped-off by a wheelchair-accessible bus service. An integrated practice that also provides culturally-sensitive services for the Nuxalk first nations. 
  • Child and Youth Aboriginal Mental Health Outreach
    Offers culturally appropriate mental health counselling to Aboriginal youth and their families who have not been able to engage with and/or access mental health services.Mental health clinicians provide services on an outreach basis in youth’s own community environment.
  • Choice in Support for Independent Living Vancouver
    Alternative method for delivering home support for clients who are able to direct their own care. Individualized funding approach that allows people greater flexibility to purchase and manage their own home support and attendant services. Clients receive funds directly for the purchase of home support services. They assume full responsibility for the management, co-ordination and financial accountability of their services, including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and supervising home support workers.
  • Choice in Support for Independent Living – Richmond
    Alternative method for delivering home support for clients who are able to direct their own care. Individualized funding approach that allows people greater flexibility to purchase and manage their own home support and attendant services. Clients receive funds directly for the purchase of home support services. They assume full responsibility for the management, co-ordination and financial accountability of their services, including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and supervising home support workers.
  • Choice in Support for Independent Living – Sunshine Coast
    Alternative method for delivering home support for clients who are able to direct their own care. Individualized funding approach that allows people greater flexibility to purchase and manage their own home support and attendant services. Clients receive funds directly for the purchase of home support services. They assume full responsibility for the management, co-ordination and financial accountability of their services, including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and supervising home support workers.
  •  Community Bath Program
    Provides assisted shower and bathing services for people with mobility and/or special health needs. Clients must supply own change of clothes and fragrance-free soaps/toiletries. Must call for an appointment. An integrated practice that also provides culturally-sensitive services for the Nuxalk first nations.
  • Diabetes and Foot Care Clinic
    Provides diabetes assessment, treatment and a variety of education and disease-management programs to people with diabetes. Also offers assessment, prevention, treatment and support for helping diabetics maintain healthy feet. Must call for appointment. An integrated practice that also provides culturally-sensitive services for the Nuxalk first nations.
  •  Healthy Living Program
    Provides health promotion and prevention education programs targeted to adults living in Vancouver who are at risk of chronic diseases. Also works with VCH staff, community leaders and/or agencies to develop initiatives and partnerships that promote healthy behaviour changes in particular around healthy eating, active living and living tobacco free. The Healthy Living Program also provides assistance with planning community-based health screening events for target populations. The team includes Health Care Professionals from dietetics, recreation, nursing, physiotherapy and social work.
  • Long Term Care
    Provides assessment and coordination of a variety of support services, special support services and assessment for residential care services to assist those over 19 years of age affected by a chronic health condition. Also manages five in-hospital long-term care beds. An integrated practice that also provides culturally-sensitive services for the Nuxalk first nations.
  • Meals on Wheels (Sunshine Coast)
    Delivers nourishing meals to homebound people, including seniors, caregivers, individuals with chronic or acute medical conditions, and/or individuals recovering from surgery, illness or injury. The service is available on various days depending on the area.
  • Residential Historical Abuse Program (RHAP)
    Provides funding for professional counselling for adults who were sexually abused as children while living in a provincially-funded residence. After intake into this service, a coordinator from this program helps connect clients with VCH-endorsed counsellors. The program arranges funding directly with the counsellor.
  • Wound Care Clinic
    Provides assessment and consultation with wound care nurses regarding the medical management of chronic wounds. Provides follow-up care to individuals at the clinic, at home, or in community clinics. Wound consultation and assessment are conducted remotely with wound care nurses located at Lions Gate Hospital. An integrated practice that also provides culturally-sensitive services for the Nuxalk first nations
  • Youth Addiction Counsellors – Vancouver
    Provides individual addiction counselling to youth aged 13-24 as well as a range of prevention, early intervention and treatment services related to alcohol and other drugs. Group and family counselling is also available. 

Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA)
The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) provides health care to people on Vancouver Island, on the islands of the Georgia Strait, and in the mainland communities between Powell River and Rivers Inlet.

    The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) Aboriginal Health clinics serve people who may wish to see an aboriginal health professional about their health concerns.
  •  Nutrition and Food Security
    The Aboriginal Health Department has two full-time dietitians who deliver health services to many nations on Vancouver Island.
  • Diabetes Nurse Educator
    Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) Aboriginal Health Diabetes Outreach Worker helps aboriginal people living with diabetes to understand their disease better. 
Fraser Health
Fraser Health is working to improve the health of the population and the quality of life of the people we serve.

    The Aboriginal Health team acts as a liaison with Aboriginal people to mainstream services and make sure culturally appropriate service delivery.

  •  Health Improvement Committees
    Aboriginal Health Improvement Committees (AHICs) help networking and communication between Aboriginal communities and organizations, and increase knowledge, awareness and understanding of all Fraser Health programs and services.
  •  Acute and Community Care
    The Aboriginal Patient Navigators (APNs) connect with Aboriginal patients and family members, health care professionals, and other service providers to make sure Aboriginal patients receive culturally safe, appropriate, and timely care, whether in hospital or community.
  • Diabetes Outreach Program
    Provides educational and diabetes management outreach services to First Nations and other remote communities of Fraser Health.

    Services for Aboriginal people are offered both on and off reserve
