Our Health Resource Centre is a unique lending centre that provides
resources to First Nations communities throughout B.C. to support
health and disability information needs.
We began operating the Resource Centre after Health Canada transferred it in April 1998. We are responsible for lending health resource information materials to First Nations health practitioners and those who serve First Nations in BC. Some of our clients are community health nurses, community health & human service workers, social workers, child & family service workers, alcohol & drug counselors, Sexual Abuse Workers and others who work directly with First Nations people.
The Resource Centre's mandate is to operate, manage and administer the Health Resource Centre, and to enhance the delivery of health promotion and disability
information resources to Aboriginal Communities throughout British Columbia. The Resource Centre provides information in the formats of kits, charts, books, manuals, reports, videos and audio cassettes through a lending program, and a complimentary health promotion & prevention program. We access parenting and pre-natal materials to distribute to communities on a regular basis; advise us if you would like to be added to the Pre-natal list.
Our collection of materials includes print and non-print resource materials, covering a variety of topics relating to health issues, genetic illnesses & diseases, alcoholism, FAS/FAE, diabetes, heart & stroke, arthritis, parenting, suicide prevention, loss & grief; physical, psychological, emotional and sexual abuse, and others. We continue to review and update our materials on a regular basis and welcome your input.
You can
register to borrow materials at no charge other than return shipping if you are of First Nations/Aboriginal descent or serve First Nations/Aboriginal clients. You must also be employed, and live and work within B.C. We look forward to working with you and assisting in meeting your community's health needs.
