Chief George Watts Chief George Watts was born on September 6, 1945 - a member of the Tseshaht Tribe and Nuu-Chah-Nulth Nation. With the exception of the years spent studying at the University of British Columbia, (where he majored in Engineering and Education) George has lived his entire life on the reserve. Presently serving as Acting Chief Councillor, George Watts was Band Manager of the Tseshaht from 1970-1980, and President of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Tribal Council for 23 years. He is currently employed as a private consultant and has three children. In a speech to the Project Interaction Conference of October 1994, George stressed that social problems such as violence and neglect of the disabled must be addressed now to secure the future welfare of all. "But until the public is sensitive to your needs, I think we should keep the pressure up and we should make the truth stay on top of the table ... because only as long as that truth stays on the table will we really be able to start to better our communities for everybody as opposed to bettering our communities for a select few."
