The British Columbia Aboriginal Network on Disability Society, or as we are more commonly known, BCANDS, is a provincial, non-profit and charitable organization serving the health and disability resource and client service needs of the First Nation and Aboriginal population of British Columbia.
Incorporated as a Society in 1991, BCANDS is governed by an elected, volunteer Board of Directors, who receive no enumeration / honorarium for their services and who represent various Nations and cultures from across the province of British Columbia. BCANDS enjoys a membership, at last count, of over 4,000 interested persons. These persons represent an eclectic range of individuals that include clients, caregivers, self advocates, First Nation / Aboriginal health workers and interested persons from associated organizations and sectors from across British Columbia and nationally.

In addition to our Board of Directors, BCANDS is privileged to enjoy the support of the following Honorary Patrons:

BCANDS is the only First Nation / Aboriginal stand alone organization of its type in Canada and as an organization we are continually requested for our participation and assistance in a variety of First Nation / Aboriginal led initiatives pertaining to health, disability, leadership policy and long-term strategic planning, both from government and non-government organizations. At BCANDS we strive to ensure that comprehensive, relevant and quality health and disability programs, services and information is provided to our clients, organizations and partner agencies in a timely and accessible manner, ensuring that their needs are met and met to their satisfaction. If client or organizational requests cannot be immediately assisted through BCANDS, we will advocate as we are able, for resources, referrals and assistance in order to achieve your needs. Currently BCANDS provides a range of programs and services; these include but are not limited to:

  •  Health information / resources
  •   E-Health videoconferencing / informational / educational / training events
  •   Health / disability referrals
  • Individual case management
  •  Health and disability client advocacy 
  •  Health Research / needs and priority identification
  •  Community and organizational consultation
  •  Policy development, policy research
  • MOU and protocol development / understandings
