Aboriginal Network on Disability Society - Employment Solutions
Employment Services for Aboriginal Persons with Disabilities
BCANDS is pleased to inform you of a new,
complimentary employment service for people with disabilities
to be developed and provided by the BC Aboriginal Network for Disability Society
in collaboration with the
First Nations communities of British Columbia, and funding from the BC Ministry
of Employment and Income
Assistance.
Our mandate is to expand upon the provincial Employment
Strategy for Persons with Disabilities (EPPD) to
address the unique employment and training issues of Aboriginal Persons with
Disabilities (APWD). It is our
goal to assist you in the development of a localized, culturally appropriate,
workable pre-employment support
system, and to aid in the facilitation of the required community resources and
relationships to do so.
We will be offering outreach services
through our employment counselors which include scheduled visits to
assist in the development of local resources, relationships and connections to
aid Aboriginal Persons with
Disabilities in your community. We aim to assist individuals in overcoming
obstacles to meaningful participation
in the work force, and to identify the necessary training and employment
supports to do so. Our aim to support
Aboriginal Persons with Disabilities will continue through regularly scheduled
visits to assist individuals, and
the development of a 1-800 call center to provide further support, guidance, and
assistance.
We are currently in the process of contacting communities who are interested in developing services for their people.
If you are interested in accessing our services please contact Bill King or Jim Franklin by phone at 1-888-815-5511
or e-mail bill@bcands.bc.ca or jim@bcands.bc.ca
